Overview

Is Bachelor of Counselling for You?

A Counselling undergraduate degree provides a comprehensive education in the theory and practice of counselling, preparing graduates for diverse and rewarding careers in the mental health field. Through a combination of coursework, practical experience, and specialised training, students gain the skills necessary to make a positive impact on individuals and communities.



Entry Requirement :


UoC Foundation in Arts or Science
Minimum of CGPA 2.00 in UoC's Foundation in Arts or Foundation in Science.
Matriculation/Other Foundation

Matriculation or its equivalent, with a minimum CGPA of 2.00

STPM

A pass in STPM or its equivalent, with a minimum of Grade C (GPA 2.00) in any two (2) subjects

A-Level
A pass in A-Levels or its equivalent, with a minimum of Grade C (GPA 2.00) in any two (2) subjects
Unified Examination Certificate (UEC)
A pass in UEC with minimum Grade B in five (5) subjects
Diploma
Certificate in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or a Certificate in any field.
Diploma Kemahiran Malaysia (DKM)/DLKM
Pass Diploma Kemahiran Malaysia (DKM)/ Diploma Lanjutan Kemahiran Malaysia (DLKM)/ Diploma Vokasional Malaysia (DVM) with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 in a relevant field subject with the approval of the University.

Credit in English at SPM level or its equivalent.

Candidate must also attend bridging courses.


Diploma Kemahiran Malaysia (DKM)/DLKM
Pass DKM/ DLKM / DVM with at least CGPA 2.00 AND have at least two (2) years of work experience in the relevant field.

Candidate must also attend bridging courses.


APEL

Entry requirements for admission into the Bachelor's programme through Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) as approved by the Ministry of Education (MOHE).

Applicants should be / have the following:

  • A Malaysian citizen
  • More than 21 years of age
  • Relevant work experience / prior experiential learning
  • Pass APEL assessment
  • Credit in SPM / UEC for Maths or equivalent
English Qualifications
For international students only :

TOEFL         -  500

IELTS           -  5.0

or its equivalent

Course Description

The Bachelor of Counselling (Honours) degree is designed to prepare students to become professional counsellors, equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to support individuals, families, and groups through various life challenges. This programme combines theoretical coursework with practical training, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for professional practice.


Course Training and Practical
Students will undergo practicum and internship. Practicum will be in-house, at our UoC Health & Psychology Clinic. Students will need to complete 252 hours in order to proceed to do their Internship. The hours are related to counselling practices, individual and group. As for Internship, students will need to apply to NGOs, hospitals, schools, companies, government offices, higher education institutions and health centres for their training practice in counselling. Students will need to be supervised by a practising licensed and registered counsellor at the internship placement. Student will need to complete 510 hours of internship which comprises individual, group, couple, and family counselling.
