Course Description
The Master of Engineering Science (M. Eng. Sc.) is a research degree
designed to develop the research capability and scholarly practice of
those who aspire to become researchers or academics in the fields
related to Engineering. Graduates of this programme can also work as
senior managers or directors in both the public and private sectors.
This programme provides an opportunity for candidates to extend their
development beyond scholarly understanding and practice to include the
capacity to conduct research within an area of interest in the field of
Engineering. The programmme is intended for graduates who may be
interested in gaining more in-depth knowledge and training in the
relevant field.

Course Structure
Programme Module
The Master of Engineering Science (M. Eng. Sc.) programme encompasses the following 5 phases:
Phase I – Preparatory Briefing |
Briefing to prepare students for the research programme, with emphasis on Research Methodology and Statistics. |
Phase II – Preliminary Research |
All M.Eng.Sc. students are required to undertake preliminary research to gain clarity in the respective areas of study and plan their research work. This normally includes identification of problem statement, literature review, project design and time management. |
Phase III – Proposal Defence |
Each student must publicly present and defend his/her research proposals. The student is only allowed to continue with his/her research to Phase IV on passing of the defence of his/her proposal. |
Phase IV – Thesis Preparation |
The student proceeds to his/her data collection, data analysis and report writing. |
Phase V – Viva Voce |
After completion and submission of the thesis, the student is required to attend a Viva Voce to orally defend his/her thesis. |
